/ˈbɜrd ˌwɑʧər/
IPA guide

Other forms: bird watchers

If your favorite hobby is observing robins, finches, and woodpeckers through your binoculars, you can call yourself a bird watcher.

A bird watcher is someone who really enjoys watching wild birds. Avid bird watchers don't just check out a crow or chickadee now and then — they go out of their way to observe a variety of birds. They might travel to faraway places in order to see a specific species of hummingbird, get a glimpse of a rare kingfisher, or simply add more birds to their life list. Bird watcher has been used since the 1890s.
